Grays on Trays Meet-up for May, 2009?

Postby John » Wed Feb 18, 2009 9:53 pm

Anyone interested in planning a late-season get-together? Last year a few of us met at A-Basin -- on May 15 (!). We even had fresh powder one of our days.

The nice thing about A-basin is that it stays open later than nearby Keystone. that means there will plenty of condos available for rent at mud-season rates. It's fairly accessible to those of us outside Colorado.

What do you think?

If I'm healthy, I'm there. I haven't made it over there yet this season.

Things shut down at Winter Park in April but I'm going to load up on Real Deals so I can hit Loveland and A-Basin as much as I want till the season is over.

There have been a few proposals for meetups in the past as I recall, but nothing panned out other than the ABasin get together last year. I think the attraction was that everything else was closed so it was an opportunity to get a couple more days in before the end of the season.

Of course, the real reason not many of us westerners would get to an east coast mountain is that we can't ride what passes for snow there! You guys are hardcore to ride ice!

In defense of the Ice Coast ... One of the best powder days I've ever had was at Cannon Mountain, New Hampshire.

That said, I understand the sentiment. Plus, even the largest eastern area is small (in acreage) by western standards.
